First time I drove at night – I was in a rush, running away (literally) from a sad, sad place – things/people who’d disappointed me, back to home sweet home & mom’s cooking which is so therapeutic (still). Initially, there was ample light but as dusk was getting on & night settled in – I had to switch on the light. Duh! I forget/couldn’t make out the differences between hi-beam & low-beam (confused between hi-beam & spotlight) so had to switch off the light whenever there was cars passing by – I know, it was weird not to mentioned dangerous as well! Lucky, the next town was not that far so I stopped at the nearest petrol station & asked a passing man – My only excuse was, “Ni bukan kereta saya!” Heheh!
First time driving to go for a holiday with friends, I managed to get lost on the way to the resort – blamed the map, co-pilot & the other convoy car. On the way back, I made the necessary arrangement to follow my friend in her husband’s car since I wasn’t really familiar with the area. Once, we’re on the main road, I noticed the hubby slid down his side of the window & flagged his hand – I don’t get it at first! Duh! My side mirror wasn’t as it was supposed to be- folded in…Question: kuar simpang tadi tak pandang ke?
First time driving my mom to our small town (usually I readily offered my full-tank car for my sis to drive) in order to buy chicken (for rearing) some more…My mak has this idea that I’m like my sis – long-time driver - so she said after stopping at the market to buy the chicken, she need to go to the pharmacy – which is right in the middle of town. I entered a dead end zone & thus the need to make a u-turn. Mak started to get nervous once she realized the real state that I was in… “Boleh ke kau pusing ni?” “Eh, boleh punya..” Duh! I banged the stone wall & that explained my slightly droppy bumper (that thing on the road is called bump – said ‘bump’ not bumper)…(BTW, I passed my driving test at one go but that was ages ago, long before I could afford to pay for my first car)!
First time I received a summons (saman ekor-there’s more coming in after that);
Wah, RM300 for speeding on the highway!
Eh, mana ada laju la…
Hebat kau, kalah kan k.Txh!
Alxxg pun tak bawak laju2 macam kau tau tak…
2nd time:
Aiseyman, baru service la – ingat nak test power sikit…
Berapa kau kono (bwak)? 150? (salah donga so den jawab – taklah, 165 yo…-coz my Bro#2 said he tried my car for 195 tuu!!)
By the 3rd time:
Eh, ada tak litar utk pompuan racing? Heheh
Lessons learnt: Speedy Highway 107 (Ikut at your own peril)
1. If speed limit is 120kmph, you can go up to 130kmph – said Bro #3, a lawyer (bole caya ke ni? But then he was the one who settled my summons – ada guna jugak la kawan dgn polis ni) – usually polis boleh terima lagi klu setakat +10.
2. Slow down whenever you reached flyover/bridges – chances are they’re right there waiting to snap your pic.
3. Take note of where (eg. right after a straight stretch) & when (after 8am till noon (before 8am ok coz they haven’t had breakfast yet, noon is lunch hour, exception for festive seasons) –what about at night? A mystery to me).
4. Take note of drivers on the opposite direction– esp. if they’re giving you a light (hint2x!).
5. Follow other drivers (but if a Merc with a special plate speed by, you cannot simply assumed it’s safe to speed & NOT pay the price!).
6. Give way immediately for police car & ambulance & follow them right through!!
7. Keep on the right lane coz others are so slow but if the one car in front of you is also slow, give way & let the other car behind to closely followed it (tailgating & thus put pressure for it to take the left lane) & then you moved back in – voila!
** Double-line - can still overtake one so long as you aren’t totally on the other right of way.
Advertorial: On overtaking- Check mirror. Signal. Manoeurve.
First time I killed God’s creature – Ya Allah, ampun!- never want to repeat the experience again..It was horrible. Gave me nightmare for a long time afterwards.
Right on I felt the tell tale bump of the tyre going over it, “Well hell, I don’t do well with roadkill!” Must admit, feels like *gagging* - Flash news! Chicken murdered on the freeway, while overtaking a trailer truck, a lorry & a Kancil (cannot swerve to the roadside), Jalan Txxxxn-Rxxxxu, 12 November 2005.
First time illegal-parking-&-almost-get-caught - incident happened in Txxxxn. I was passing the town on the way back home. I remembered just in time to pick up my new credit card (both Visa & Master cards no less! With RM4000 credit limit! I’m rich…yaaahooo!! me- student!) at the BCB branch. Since it was situated in the UMNO building in front of the Txxxxn Square, I thought to look for parking in the Square. Turns out that part of the road was blocked for the Ramadhan bazaar (at that time) & the main street was packed- side parking was full, there were people double parked their car with engine still running & I can’t move forward! Then, I chanced upon to see on my left hand side a junction/ left turn with a no entry sign but with a perfectly empty parking slot right at the start of the junction. Well, this is too good to be true so I reversed a bit & thus parked nicely there! Right when I went out & about to lock the car, there was this guy in blue uniform –“Kak, tak nampak ke no entry tu?” “Eh, ye la…” Heheheh! So, reversed again & parked elsewhere – Thank God! Moral of the story – learn to park properly, read the road sign, don’t worry too much & let Allah take care of the rest!

Joke of the Family- Federal Highway
P/s: I dunno what's goin on with the connection so the double entry for today!
