This is a bit belated.
Oct 11, London (NST): Former foreign secretaryJack Straw found support yesterday from Prime Minister Tony Blair and author Salman Rushdie for raising the issue of whether Muslims women should be veiled.
Blair said that Straw had been "perfectly sensible" in addressing the issue...
Rushdie used more forthright language, " He (Straw) was epxressing an important opinion which is that veils suck, which they do,"...
Straw wrote in his local newspaper last Thursday that he asks Muslim women to remove their veils when they visit his constituency office...
Blair told BBC television: " I dont think anyone is suggesting it's not a matter of personal choice in the end, for people to do what they want."
Rushdie, "The battle against the veil has been a long and continueing battle against the limitation of women so, in that sense, I am completely on his side,".."I think the veil is a way of taking power away from woman."

First, don't melatah.
Second, although I'm not wearing veil, I'm sure those women got their reasons to do so - it's their belief in Allah (different mazhab & everything).
Third, who are these people (Blair, Rushdie & Straw) again? May Allah laknat mereka klu tak insaf jugak!! Why should we listen to them?
Forth, Allah said, "Cover yourself..," so we do - it's called iman & Islam! MasyaAllah..

diorang punya nuns pakai veil depa tak bising pulak naa?
it's not just comments from non-muslims but from 3 men. and i'm sure they won't want to publish what the women say.
I read yday Malay newspaper & I think it’s a lil’bit misleading. Veil is not tudung. Veil refers to what-we-usually-called-it-here-as ‘pakai purdah’ ie face covers.
Mr Hobo (what a nice surprise! Thx for the visit),
Tu la pasal, depa suma boleh. Bila hak kita, pakat2 suma tak boleh.
Same goes with nuke. Gay marriage. Er, what else?
Grey matters,
To be fair, we should give them the benefit of doubts too in matters like national security eg. ID pic should be no face cover rite?
Perhaps Mr. Straw should have phrased the issue better, so as not to incite more negative responses from the already sensitive Muslims in Europe (Malaysians are different, suma boleh punya attitude rite?).
At the same time, Muslims should compromise accordingly – I’m referring to the case of one sacked female language teacher (still in UK) for wearing veil; bukannya suruh ambik Islam part yg mudah je or buang principle. But surely in teaching languages esp when it comes to pronounciation, it’s important to read the lips of the teacher.
So, Muslim men – what say you?
