Family Planning and PhD babies

Word of the day: Pramusaji
Would you believe it that such word exist? I just found out!! During lunch, me and friend were talking about the new retro-looking cafĂ© where the food at the counter are served by ‘peramusaji’. After living for 31 odd years, I came to know of it only today (usually I called them pelayan/server)…To help further improves my understanding, she said, “Think of ‘pramugari’ la” which brings to my mind, “If pramugari padannya dgn pramugara, then pramusaji sesuailah dgn pramusajatak gitu?”

Being a (ahem!) good researcher, I cross-checked with my Indo friends. “Er, what’s the translation for stewardess?”
First person, “Kalo agency theory …..” WTF? (pardon my French) Turn out she’s been sleeping all this while and my urgent voice did wake her up. She’s referring to ‘stewardship’ problem as compared to agency’s theory principal-agent relationship!
Second person confirmed that such word does exist!

Family Planning and PhD babies
(Kena letak kot? Caveat: 18SX)
When I was in UK, I knew that we (read: students) can simply get our supply of morning-after pills from any GP. And even the Student Union spread a lot of advises (and free rubber too) on the practice of safe sex especially among the undergraduates. Well, that was more for the purpose of prevention of STDs and AIDs rather than family planning per se.

Today being Friday, (Wot? Wot were you thinking? I’m innocent – not saying anything ok? Hah! I hate it when married guys joke among themselves in front of moi especially on Thursday about tomorrow-is-Friday – turnabout is a fair play isn’t it?) then it is only appropriate for me to talk about this topic. The reason being a younger friend of us got married recently. She’s starting to have ‘migraine’ & needing to rest during office hour –what am I suppose to think? She’s going to UK later this year for that phd thingie. We’re (read: female colleagues, aka Council of Supports) concern –you see, there was a case of another would-be graduate student who were in the final prep-stage before going Down Under – visa requirement check, she’s pregnant & thus sentenced to a year delay – what a havoc to the schedule! (But, anak itu rezeki daripada Allah kan?)

Dunno know about current UK regulations but I’ve been told by a friend that MAS has recently relax their rules regarding what they consider as safe for would-be-moms to travel on their flights.

On a different note, among all of us here, there are quite a number of MBAs –married but available- bapak2. Not just the guys though, ibu2 too (actually the no. of singles can be counted with one hand). I’ve known lotsa real stories like how an Indo friend left for her phd here in Mesia, leaving behind her first baby under the care of mom (& MIL) immediately after the confinement period (40days) since the hubby later follow her step by going to another continent. There’s my SIL’s in-law (what do you call it? Biras) who got married, then gave birth (wow, so fast ah?) & left for UK alone, leaving behind the hubby to take care of the baby too. Lucky are those couples who either apply to further study at the same time (more like second honeymoon for them) or unpaid leave on part of the spouses (given that they worked for the Govt otherwise it’s a gamble –leaving behind your safe cushion for future uncertainty in the job market).

My point is, tau ke cara2 merancang keluarga? (*Blushing* -Another friend mentioned ‘cara semulajadi’ – if she (and the hubby) can do it, why not you?) Timing is very important my fren..

P/s: One of my sis –purposely planned and have a baby born while in Cairo – anak Mesir gitu! So, anak UK/US/Jepun (put any country of your choice here) anyone?
