Blogging Etiquette (esp. in commenting) & China again *sigh*

New blogger – No need to introduce your full name of anything like that. Sufficient if you just say a greeting (e.g. Hi!) or something to that effects at the end of your first comment. Just imagine you’re entering a big room of gossiping people…you don’t simply jump into the conversation, do you? We’ve phrases like, “Tumpang lalu...” whenever you’re referring to a third party (another commenter).
Anonymous – I’m sure you’ve got your reasons for being anonymous (like not having a blog of your own) but give us some kind of indication on how to address you (other than Anon of course).
Blog-owner – Being in polite society means you acknowledge every single comment (there’s always ‘thanks-to-all’ if you’re lazy to do it one-by-one) inclusive of anonymous’s comment while those annoying comments can be deleted (after all it’s your blog). I learn this from good bloggers like Mak Andeh, Idham and many others. Personally, I’m hurt big-time when my efforts to leave comments (silent readers out there can testify how hard it is to come up with a single-line comment no matter how touching, funny, or tears-inducing the entries are) are ignored. I always came back to check on the first comments that I left behind to see whether me and the blog-owner can ‘click’ together.
Linking – This is how blogging actually works. Previously (even now to a certain extent), I avoid leaving direct trail to my site since I’m really scared that my past or my family or my close friends will catch up on me! Not that I’ve anything to hide (you can attest to that huh?) but whenever I let a friend or two know about my site, I always feel awkward for days afterward (not that they ever leave a comment to let me know if they’re reading my ramblings…hmmm).
Quid pro quo (Latin for ‘something for something’) – OR do unto others how you like others to do to you. Self-explained I guess. (I've to mention how sorry I'm for not being able to return the favor to some of the few ppl that come by here due to some reasons or another - like you need to have a Friendster account lah, I'm to lazy to join coz I'd be addicted somehow)
Plagiarism – is BIG no-no. Copying other ppl's entry & buying pirated DVDs are not the same thing even though both involve respecting intellectual copyright of others. Always quote your sources/references. Be a man (or woman). Be a responsible blogger (I’m sure our cabinet ministers wholly agreed with this). If you read an entry that trigger your memory & goes, “Whoa!” the least that you can do is to acknowledge that person. Better yet if you link to him/her.

In case you’re wondering what trigger this entry – I’ve been following the recent brouhaha/happening at 5xmoms. I'm (still) new at blogging so let me know what do you think!

weiiiii going to china again? jeles jeles...

i pun belajar pasal *tumpang lalu*... after one or two times being *rude* coz i didnt use *tumpang lalu* when adressing the third party..

true... u expect an answer when u leave a comment.. tapi kalau ada orang tu tertinggal comment kat previous entries..kekadang terlupa jugak nak jawab.. kalau u ada terkena jangan marah yea.... mintak ampun :0)

mehveş (my sis ) in law tengah dreamm nak pi china... since u have been there..i guess u can understand why eh?

apa2 yang berkaitan dgn dunia maya (even dunia nyata pun) selalu ada pro & con.. like myself, kekadang tu i just baca je tanpa tinggalkan any komen. tapi i pun macam u, bila tinggalkan komen, suka tengok balik org tu balas ke tak. or just being ignored. (frust gak bila ada blogger lg suka reply yg berlwnan jantina walaupun org tu pun baru 1st time masuk. tp tu hak dia, kan? so diam je le)

i pun pernah terfikir (till now) nak pergi china. bukannya apa, nak soping hehehehe. bebaru ni pujuk my fren kumpul duit then pergi bercuti ke china tapi my fren tak nak. ampes.com toi. atleast simpan je le duit then later decide le nak pergi or not.

ps: ada org kata i suka pergi blog yang ditulis dalam english je. alehai.. tak relevan langsung

Hi Rad, I fully agree on what you posted here. Right on!
I guess alot of bloggers forget this is an open channel and anyone from Timbuktu to Sibu can read.
For me, I dislike any swearing or uncomfortable words in blogs...to me personally, no class, period.
However I really do appreciate well written postings, whatever they are as long its not personal.
I enjoy blogging and treat it as fun to distract me from my other chores as well the opportunity to chat with nice people, namely yourself from other side of the planet.
It always thrills me being able to chat or tease or joke with friends all over the world.
And especially now with Malaysians in Turkey, London, Germany, US etc.
By the way, I already found your car, you'll love this one! UL.

simah,
Not me - kawan lah...lepas sorang, sorang pergi...so, ur sis -apa tunggu lagi?

Saya sedar siapalah saya nak cakap pasal etika per'blogging'an ini. Bukan susah pun, just use our common sense. Tapi taklah sampai consider rude kalo tak guna 'tumpang lalu' tu. Er, pandai2lah bawak diri kata orang tua2 kan?

Pasal komen kat previous entries tak terbalas - that's ok. Yg tak ok, (own experience) bila komen you di'ignore' coz you're new & nobody yet other comments are entertained. Kecik ati mak you!!
Kira diskriminasi jugak la..

darling,
Suka reply yg berlainan jantina je?
Er, ntahlah...i suka pompuan lagi coz comfortable but doesn't mean I'm lesbian heheheheh...tapi pompuan ni ada emosi byk, kena balancekan dgn yg pakcik2 jugak.
Mcm nickname that I use - rad- kira gender neutral gitu!
Suka blog yg berbahasa Inggeris aje?
Pun ntahlah...selera msg2. Pun pernah terkena tempias sindiran ni - pedulikan la, mana boleh paksa2 orang wei...
Omputeh kata, sometimes you can't have your cake & eat it too right? Myself- trying to strike a balance btw BM & BI. Everybody got their own reasons/preferences so...

Satu lagi, like UL mentioned - your blog is open channel (unless you limit it by enforcing password or whatever) so anybody can come & read your entries & follow later by commenting. Mana boleh kata, (contoh eh) "Nak layan taggers je.."

Regarding China: klu ada free tickets tu, toksah pikir lagi - ajak le I, abis cerita!

UL,
Swear words are ok when you're in dire need esp when raving & ranting - heheheh..otherwise when & where else can we practice our 'French' eh? (I do it when I'm driving alone too, after all I'm a Malaysian driver!)
Blogging & class (or caste) - that's something else which I don't dare to find out..
But I'm curious to find out what are your 'other chores'? Hmm..there's a lot of UL still hidden from our scrutiny?
For me, blogging helps me to write easily when it comes to thesis, the place that share my confidante, friends that substitute/improve my lack of social life and lots more.

My car? Lamborghini Mestilaju? It suits me perfectly, I dare say...heheheh

Hi Rad
I like this entry of yours. Not many people practice it though.
One way I can appreciate readers' comments is to acknowledge them. When we acknowledge comments, we build friendships.
For example, U.Lee. Get to know his readers and then suddenly they get invited to his fantasy world equipped with fancy and exotic cars for our pleasure. :) Love your Lamborghini!
I am little lost with that modern technology message. Who is going to Beijing? :) Old lady la. I had to ask my sister, a mom in Msia, to show me how to send shorter SMS messages (like what I see in your entry). I kept spelling out words in full! haha She laughed at me.

Have to 'practice you'd preach' la kan? Not that I'm a missknowitall or moral police or anything...
I'm just happy to share my little corner of this world, make lotsa good friends, while struggling with life as it is.
Our UL - that one fantasy, what a real 'party'! He single-handed manages to connect all of us who are there in his blog..I mean, instead of one-to-one ramblings, now everybody is talking (esp abt L-Mustilaju)! Hahaha.

Re: China. I went to Beijing last Nov for a conference. Then a colleague joined a study-trip to Beijing&shanghai in March. Now, another one was presenting his proposal there (sometime this week). And coming June, another friend is going to present paper in a conference there too. It's like, you wait for a bus -it never comes by but if you're not, then there're buses after buses passing by..Er, whatever I'm saying...
You know what - my advisor also texted in full back in the early days of her getting her own hp (usually she asked her kids to do it). Then I started to reply like, "I'l c u 2row. Thx." Next, she starts to follow my lingo - am I proud or what eh?
The trick is to ignore the AEIOU & simply spell the sound of the consonants.

Terima kasih.

Yang memunya belog.

Thanks to you - I'm now unofficially addicted to blogging!
But not the extent of bein' blogger tegar: No-no, not yet!
I like - to be able to exchange ideas, fantasies, personal ramblings & whatever that comes to mind with practically strangers that somehow feels like no stranger at all - how abt that uh?
